Candidate instructions
These instructions explain the examination regulations that apply to written submissions in WISEflow.
Rules that apply to all written submissions
Candidates are responsible for being prepared for the examination and having the necessary equipment in working order.
Candidates are required to use their own PC or Mac for the examination. The device must be up to date, and the software required for WISEflow must be installed before the examination day.
Technical issues at the start of the examination resulting from insufficient preparation do not entitle candidates to additional examination time.
..
Candidates unable to attend or submit their work due to illness or other compelling welfare reasons must submit valid documentation within one week. The documentation must confirm that the absence relates to the examination day itself. If valid documentation is not submitted, the absence will count as an examination attempt.
Approved valid absence entitles the candidate to resit the examination at the deferred examination for the course.
Candidates who attend the examination but choose to withdraw before completion will have used one examination attempt.
Candidates who withdraw during the examination are not entitled to a deferred examination. However, they may register for a deferred examination in courses where this is offered.
Candidates who submit a blank file will have their submission sent for assessment. This is regarded as a submission and counts as an examination attempt.
Candidates are responsible for submitting their examination work correctly and on time. When submitting in WISEflow, candidates may opt to receive a submission receipt.
The submission deadline is final.
If a submission is prevented by circumstances beyond the candidate's control, an late submission may exceptionally be accepted.
In such cases, the candidate must immediately request permission to submit late. The examination work must be sent by email to the administrative contact person for the examination, accompanied by an explanation of the reason for the delay.
Submission by email does not constitute a formal submission. However, it is required to document that the examination work was not altered after the original submission deadline.
If the late submission is approved, the candidate will be allowed to submit the examination work in WISEflow by a new specified deadline.
Automatic plagiarism screening is applied to all written submissions.
Candidates must comply with the rules applicable to the examination and ensure that all submitted work is independent.
Candidates must comply with the rules applicable to each examination. Breaches of these rules may give rise to suspicion of academic misconduct or attempted academic misconduct.
Academic misconduct and attempted academic misconduct constitute a breach of trust towards both fellow students and the institution. Such breaches may result in the examination or assessment being annulled and/or exclusion from the institution for up to two semesters, and up to four semesters in particularly serious cases.
Sit in exams (supervised assessments)
If the required software has not been installed before the examination, you will not be able to use your PC or Mac. In such cases, the examination must be completed using pen and paper.
Please see the checklist at the top of this page for information about computer and software requirements.
Most on-campus examinations start at 9.00 am. You should arrive at the examination venue at least 30 minutes before the start of the examination.
If you arrive after this time, registration may be delayed until after the examination has begun.
Candidates arriving more than one hour after the start of the examination will not normally be permitted to sit the examination but may register for a resit or, where available, a deferred examination.
Candidates must register on arrival at the examination venue. Valid identification includes a student ID card, bank card with photograph, or driving licence. The Student ID app and digital driving licences are not accepted.
Once seated, log in to the examination system.
Candidates may keep writing materials, permitted aids, food and drink on their desk.
Identification must remain visible on the desk throughout the examination.
The following items are not permitted:
- Mobile phones, smartwatches, smart glasses, earphones, headphones and other devices capable of connecting to the internet. These must be switched off or placed in flight mode and left in a designated area.
- Watches of any kind.
- Coats, bags and other personal belongings. These must be placed in the cloakroom or another designated area before the examination begins.
The permitted aids for each examination are specified in the course description.
Candidates are responsible for bringing any permitted aids to the examination.
Examinations staff may inspect permitted aids at any time during the examination.
The use or possession of unauthorised aids may be regarded as academic misconduct or cheating, or attempted academic misconduct or cheating.
Most sit in examinations require the use of either LockDown Browser or Device Monitor.
Candidates must not disable or close any required examination software during the examination. Doing so may be treated as academic misconduct or cheating, or attempted academic misconduct or cheating.
Once registered, candidates may leave the examination venue only when accompanied by a member of the examination staff.
Candidates must maintain silence throughout the examination.
Candidates must not communicate with one another during the examination. Any questions should be directed to the examination staff.
Breaks
Candidates who need to leave the examination venue during the examination must be accompanied by a member of the examination staff. Breaks should normally be kept to 10 minutes or less.
Withdrawing from the Examination
Candidates who withdraw from the examination must leave the examination venue immediately.
Candidates must leave the examination paper and any rough work in the examination venue if less than half of the examination time has elapsed.
Where all or part of an examination is completed on paper, candidates must use the official answer sheets provided for the examination. Responses must be written in blue or black ballpoint pen. Candidates are responsible for ensuring that their handwriting is legible.
Candidates who leave their desk during the examination must ensure that all examination materials are covered.
At the end of the examination, candidates have 15 minutes to complete the candidate information section, organise their papers, and submit their work.
Candidates must submit the original and the first copy, each in a separate cover folder. They may keep the final copy for their own records.
The general rules for all written submissions, described earlier on this page, also applies.
Unsupervised assessments (take home exams and Bachelor's theses)
Take-home examinations and bachelor's theses must be completed as independent and individual work, unless otherwise specified in the course description.
Candidates may discuss the examination with other students during a take-home examination. However, NLA University College strongly advises candidates not to share notes, drafts or other written material during the examination period.
Candidates are responsible for saving their work regularly and for keeping backup copies.
Once the submission deadline has passed, the submission will be available in the archive and marked as Submitted. Before the deadline, the file will only be marked as Saved.
You must submit your work as a single PDF file, unless otherwise specified. Any appendices must be included in the same document.
The general rules for all written submissions, described earlier on this page, also apply to take-home examinations and bachelor's theses.
A bachelor's thesis must include a cover page. You may use one of the downloadable cover page templates or create your own cover page:
